IKS Festival presents and (co)produces contemporary theatre through international cooperation in the Mediterranean region. The Festival is held every year in Split and shows some of the biggest current hits of contemporary theaters of European capitals with the special accent on Mediterranean region. The Theatre program is based on highly aesthetic
projects of independent groups, interdisciplinary projects which implement new technology and media. Throughout co-productions with other festivals in Croatia, it gains a recognizable value.
The mission of the IKS Festival is to create a repertoire of contemporary performing arts projects in Split through (co)production of multimedia artists, directors, dramaturges, dancers and choreographers, and to realize artistic residencies of Croatian and international artists and collectives, to continuously develop the research potential of professionals, associates and
artists whose experiments are based on the intersection of recent scientific discoveries and the questioning of personal beliefs.
IKS Festival productions establish a different theatre: research in performing arts and the engaged approach of the author, director and/or choreographer, and dance expression which deviates from the traditional established forms and habits that encourages more open thinking
of the audience in Split. In the artistic program of the IKS Festival, the public is just as important as the artist – inclusive and integrated into the artistic act.
With the renovation of our independent art center, we got a highly functional multimedia production space for dance and interdisciplinary art in the city center of Split, near nature and the Marjan Forest Park. The locker room and multimedia dance hall have been renovated, which we use as a production space and residential creative place for cultural and artistic
projects. As well, the center is equiped with office that can be used by all our artists and partners with whom we realize productions, co-productions, residential and educational programs through international projects. During the XRoads project, a platform of residential centers in Europe whose idea was launched in 2022 with the Ateliersi organization from
Bologna, Italy, we have the intention of creating an active network of residential centers in Italy, Spain and Austria at the beginning of 2023.
In its principles of organization and production, the IKS festival fosters openness, questioning, invitation to feedback, participation, engagement, all with the goal of inviting society as a whole to more advanced and responsible management of public space, nature and environment, and of course, quality of living.
The IKS Festival organization is an associated member of the Thematic Network New Public Culture, which works on building a knowledge based in the field of participatory management in culture, affirmation of socio-cultural activities in the local community, development of various models of civil-public partnership and affirmation.
