OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME:
Efficient Human Resources Operational Programme 2014 – 2020
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of Projekt Solar is to contribute to the development of sustainable cultural and artistic programmes in the area adjoining the historic centre of Split, and to renovate and establish a community and cultural centre in Varoš. The building of the future community and cultural centre at Sinovčićeva 6 / Ban Mladenova 9 is wholly owned by the City of Split. Due to the unsuitable condition of the premises, primarily the poor roof covering that causes leaks and damp, cultural, artistic, discussion-based and health programmes cannot be delivered there to an adequate standard and in their full scope. The joint presentation of activities to the public needs to be improved to increase the visibility of the civil society organisations operating in the two halls and office premises.
The project outcomes will encourage happier, more culturally enriched and healthier lives for the residents of Varoš, the area adjoining the historic centre of Split, as well as for other residents of the City of Split (the general population).
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- Revitalise the building at Sinovčićeva 6 / Ban Mladenova 9, which houses Gradski kotar Varoš (Varoš City District) and civil society organisations, including the possibility of implementing a pilot project to install curved roof tiles with solar cells.
- Initiate a model of cooperation through a public–civil partnership between Gradski kotar Varoš and the civil society organisations that use the offices and halls temporarily or permanently, or manage them.
- Encourage the circulation of cultural, artistic and discussion-based practices to maximise the participation of citizens and Varoš residents in programmes held in the rooms and halls of the DKC Solar building and in public spaces.
- Establish a community and cultural centre in the area adjoining the historic centre of Split that seeks to preserve the original understanding of Mediterranean life in the city centre and the authenticity of contemporary approaches to programming social practices in public space, where the residents of Split remain active participants in articulating different
artistic, cultural and social needs. - Improve the promotion of civil society organisations’ cultural, artistic, discussion-based and health protection programmes to the wider public, and increase the number of activities in the two halls of DKC Solar.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
- A revitalised roof and an established community and cultural centre based on a public–civil partnership model, in cooperation with Gradski kotar Varoš and civil society organisations
- A total of 100 cultural, artistic, educational and information programmes prepared and delivered through three programme strands: Cultural and Artistic Programme, Discussion Programme and Zdravi Varoš (Healthy Varoš)
- The networked civil society organisations that participated in the project continue
their activities and work in the community and cultural centre, and continue to strengthen their professional and administrative capacities.
TARGET GROUP AND END BENEFICIARIES:
- The project will involve 13 civil society organisations (3 partner organisations and 10
civil society organisations) and 20 volunteers. The end beneficiaries are residents of the adjoining area and the historic centre, as well as other citizens of Split (the general population).
LOCATION OF ACTIVITIES:
The DKC Solar building is classified by its use as an “office building”. In addition to
office premises, it has two halls used by civil society organisations under
specific criteria for the use of the premises: the ground-floor hall, managed by Gradski kotar
Varoš, and the IKS hall on the 2nd floor, managed by IKS Festival. The shared areas of
the building are connected by a passage linking the premises of Gradski kotar Varoš and those of
the civil society organisations.
The building is in Varoš and, due to its particular layout, has two entrances at Sinovčićeva 6 and Ban
Mladenova 9.
